Business Development and Investor Relations Manager
Job Summary
The role sits at the intersection of investor stewardship, offtaker business growth and Programme analytics. The position holder will manage relationships with existing investors and funders, help offtakers grow local demand and distribution, advise the Programme team on domestic business growth, and support offtaker capacity-building forums. The role suits someone with commercial fluency and strong relationship skills who is comfortable in a small team where duties blend, and who is motivated by building inclusive, commercially viable livestock value chains.
Job Details
Investor and funding partner relations:
- Keeping contact with investors, donors and funding partners; keep a disciplined cadence of quarterly updates, and briefings.
- Maintaining investor CRM and track commitments, milestones and reporting obligations.
- Helping the Programme team sustain investor trust, escalating issues early and protecting the Programme’s credibility.
Offtaker domestic market expansion:
- Identifying, size and prioritizing opportunities to grow offtakers’ domestic customer base and distribution across Kenya.
- Supporting go-to-market plans for institutional buyers, urban retail, food service and informal markets, respecting each offtaker’s commercial strategy.
- Opening access to buyer networks, distributors and market intelligence; tracking sales against agreed growth indicators.
- Identifying shared-service and coopetition opportunities, such as joint logistics, cold chain or promotion.
Advisory to the Programme team:
- Advising on offtakers’ commercial trajectory, analyzing unit economics, margins, distribution economics and competitive positioning, and recommending Programme adaptations.
- Anticipating risks (pricing pressure, buyer concentration, working capital, new entrants) with proposed responses; supporting briefings to the Programme Director, partners and investors.
Offtaker workshop support:
- Helping to coordinate and deliver workshops on market expansion, buyer engagement, distribution economics and investor readiness.
- Capturing learnings from each event as practical, actionable outputs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Marketing, Agribusiness or a related field
- Commercial acumen and unit-economics literacy; data and dashboard fluency with the ability to turn data into narratives; excellent written and verbal communication, including senior-level briefings and presentations.
- Willingness to travel within Kenya, especially to pastoral counties (minimal international travel possible).
- Proficiency in English, Kiswahili (highly desired) and a local language of the pastoralist counties (an advantage).
- Agriculture, agribusiness, livestock or FMCG distribution experience (highly desirable); donor-funded or development-sector programme exposure (an advantage).
- Stakeholders: proven senior-level management of investors, donors, corporate partners or institutional buyers.
