Head of Alternative Distribution Channels & Partnerships
Job Summary
The Head of Alternative Distribution & Partnerships will be responsible for driving sustainable growth through the development, management, and optimization of alternative distribution channels and strategic partnerships.
The role will focus on expanding market reach, accelerating revenue growth, enhancing customer acquisition, and strengthening partnerships across bancassurance, digital platforms, affinity groups, intermediaries, Saccos, MFIs, corporates, and emerging distribution ecosystems.
The role holder will provide strategic leadership in identifying new business opportunities, building scalable partnerships, and driving execution excellence while ensuring alignment with the company’s commercial objectives and governance standards.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
1. Alternative Distribution Strategy
- Develop and execute the alternative distribution strategy in line with overall business objectives.
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard new distribution channels and strategic partners.
- Drive diversification of revenue streams through innovative market approaches.
- Build scalable and sustainable channel growth models.
2. Strategic Partnerships & Business Development
- Lead partnership acquisition, engagement, and retention efforts across key market segments.
- Develop and manage relationships with banks, SACCOs, MFIs, corporates, aggregators, fintechs, and affinity partners.
- Negotiate and structure commercial partnership agreements.
- Identify emerging market opportunities and strategic alliances to accelerate growth.
3. Revenue Growth & Commercial Performance
- Deliver growth in premiums, customer acquisition, and market penetration through alternative channels.
- Drive productivity and profitability across all partnership channels.
- Monitor channel performance and implement interventions to optimize results.
- Support product positioning and go-to-market execution for partnership-led solutions.
4. Market Development & Innovation
- Drive market intelligence initiatives to identify customer trends, competitor activity, and new opportunities.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop customer-centric products and value propositions.
- Champion digital and ecosystem-based distribution opportunities.
5. Stakeholder Management
- Build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships to support business objectives.
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Marketing, Finance, Compliance, Risk, and Product teams to ensure seamless execution.
- Represent the company in industry engagements, partner forums, and strategic meetings.
6. Team Leadership & Capability Development
- Lead and develop high-performing business development and partnerships teams.
- Drive a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and execution excellence.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and leadership support to direct reports.
7. Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Ensure all partnerships and distribution activities comply with regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Maintain strong governance standards and ethical business practices.
- Oversee reporting, pipeline management, and performance tracking across all channels.
