IRC is seeking a Program Lead for an anticipated multi-million-dollar Department of Health CDC Expanding Efforts and Strategies to Protect and Improve Global Health Security in Kenya.

The Program Lead will work closely with IRC country program(s), regional, and HQ leadership to ensure that the project is implemented in accordance with IRC policies and principles.

In addition, they will be the primary representational link with CDC staff for the Program and will liaise with the CDC to provide project updates and discuss strategies, obstacles, performance plans, and progress against targets. The Program Lead will liaise with CDC agreement/contracting officers, technical support staff, partner organizations, outside contractors, and implementers of other CDC-funded initiatives as required. The Program Lead will represent the project to all key stakeholders, government officials, and donors at coordination fora and other related meetings and will ensure that project initiatives achieve the expected results.

The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya. Recruitment is contingent upon the successful award of the project, and the selection of the final applicant is subject to CDC approval. The project is anticipated to begin in March 2025.

Major Responsibilities: 

UN Donor Engagement 

Strategy

  • Reporting to the Director of Global Donor Engagement, the role will support comprehensive multi-year business development strategic plans for relevant UN Agencies, with emphasis on UNHCR, UNICEF, UN-OCHA, UNFPA, and UN Women. The Advisor will carry out research, data generation and analysis for priority donors in the engagement portfolio. 
  • Working with compliance, regional, and technical staff, the Advisor will review due diligence and support new UN donor assessment processes as identified.
  • Identify, research and update relevant data and analysis on donor strategies, peer activity and priorities.

External Representation

  • Facilitate meetings between UN donors and Regional and Technical Leadership, Country Directors, Regional Vice Presidents and the President/CEO as well as support the preparation for these engagements. 
  • Prepare for key meetings with UN stakeholders. This includes relevant analysis, briefing materials and participation as necessary. 
  • The role will also lead follow-up and disseminate information across the organization as required.
  • Support the Director for Global Donor Engagement to coordinate IRC’s participation at high-level conferences in collaboration with relevant colleagues.
  • Represent the IRC at external meetings, events, and forums as appropriate.

Information and Knowledge Management

  • Proactively identify and broker relationships with key officials and stakeholders.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UN donor strategies relevant to IRC’s work, such as funding priorities, geographical interests and political climate, providing analyses and synopses of press releases, policies and other announcements, and disseminating this information internally.
  • Through the use of IRC’s preferred CRM, Salesforce, plan, track and maintain a register of UN donor engagement at country, regional and global levels; triangulate information at different levels and ensure staff are well briefed and consistent in their donor engagement and influence. Maintain and contribute to the improvement of tools and resources to support engagement and relationship building. 

Flexible support to other donor engagement: 

  • Working with Director, European Donor Engagement provide effective support to new or emerging donors, including as required, due diligence assessment, information gathering and analysis, donor engagement strategy and direct oversight of donor engagement plans. 

Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications:

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in humanitarian or development business development, donor relations, policy or advocacy or a combination of these. 
  • Knowledge of having worked with or for UN and/or humanitarian and development donors. 
  • Strong collaboration approaches, in a large organizational setting.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, including development of briefing documents. 
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced and changing environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Good analytical skills and first-class attention to detail. Experience undertaking reviews of policies and reports, producing associated written and verbal guidance to relevant staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to collaborate with others and work as part of team
