Mortician

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Organise transport, prepare, dress, embalm, dress and casket deceased people for funerals
  • Receive prompt notification of deaths and respond immediately. This is done by dispatching pickups to homes, hospitals or other locations where death occurred and pick the body
  • Documentation and legal requirements-Obtain relevant information from the families, hospitals and other medical facilities to complete all necessary legal documents like burial permits and death certificates for each body
  • Embalm the deceased and ensure that the body stays in good condition through its stay in the mortuary. Apply the necessary cosmetics and casketing in preparation for viewing or funeral proper burial
  • Assist with forensic and paediatric autopsies, collection of evidence, collection and delivery of laboratory specimens when required. Complete restoration of remains for release to receiving facility.
  • Prepare grave yards for the deceased in the cemeteries or prepare bodies for cremation, and prepare bodies for out-of-state cemeteries.
  • Carry out general maintenance of equipment and other machinery for the provision of quality funeral services delivery in the funeral home of the hospital
  • Maintain accurate records of tests carried out by ensuring correct data entry on computer, report forms as well as batch registers.
  • Maintain effective communication with the other members of the Multidisciplinary team for effective patient care
  • Participate in Unit based Continuing education and implementation of quality control programs in the department.
  • Assist the manager in data collection and monitoring of identifies unit-based quality and performance indicators.
  • Participate in departmental events such as public screening for heart disease, medical camps, heart day activities and conferences.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Certificate in Mortician Course
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education
  • 3 years’ work experience in a funeral establishment
  • Be a member of a registered funeral professional association
