Miller

Role Purpose:

Reporting to the Head Miller, the job holder will ensure safe and efficient operation of grain milling equipment. Ensure optimal setting of the grain cleaning equipment and grinding process to achieve the intended extraction rate. Perform basic troubleshooting and maintain a clean and safe work area

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Production Planning

  1. Ensure timely execution of production plans
  2. Ensure adherence to production plan and schedules
  3. Increase product availability by reviewing and replenishing the FG Kanban
  4. Ensure timely posting of bulk flour in SAP as per SLA with key stake holders
  5. Build relations with the sales team for prompt communication on sales order

 Implement Food Safety objectives

  1. Enhance customer experience through production of conforming products
  2. Maintain GMPs above 90%
  3. Ensure compliance to legal/regulatory requirements
  4. Implement Quality Plan and other food safety programs

Grain Cleaning Process

  1. Ensure operational excellence by  Maintaining equipment efficiencies
  2. Ensure optimal water addition for the wheat grain
  3. Ensure adequate lying time for wheat
  4. Maintain hourly transfer target for wheat at 17MT/hr
  5. Ensure optimal separation of screenings
  6. Ensure proper handling and mixing of screenings into by-product

Optimize Grain Conversion

  1. Maintain set extraction rates and other milling efficiencies
  2. Monitor milling cost and optimize wheat grist
  3. Investigate process losses and take prompt corrective actions
  4. Adhere to Product Specifications

Pest Management

  1. Adopt the best industrial practice by maintaining proper hygiene levels
  2. Ensure proper Sanitation of equipment through the deep cleaning process
  3. Conduct equipment and process  inspection for traces of infestation
  4. Ensure AM and PM support in regard to equipment maintenance-Improve access to hidden areas

 Maintenance Programs

  1. Adopt the best industrial practice by maintaining proper working integrity of the milling equipment
  2. Conduct routine equipment inspection
  3. Conduct Autonomous Maintenance and AM awareness trainings – Tagging and un tagging of abnormalities
  4. Conduct Condition Based Maintenance activities
  5. Ensure support for Planned Maintenance; Roll change, sifter maintenance, servicing drives… Maintain the process flow as per mill design from the available flow charts
  6. Maintain the working integrity of MCC and PLC. Enhance employee training on PLC
  7. Maintain the working integrity of process scales
  8. Ensure Interlock system for the process is working with no bypass
  9. Use available manuals for interpretation of errors
  10. Implement Production plan and schedules

Continual Improvement Initiatives

  1. Improve operational efficiencies through PaTaMu
  2. Identify process challenges & use PDCA to address bottlenecks
  3. Enhance employee competences through trainings
  4. Conduct HK Reviews for reportees by reviewing strategies against performance. Participate in the monthly HK Reviews with the Head Miller
  5. Support activities around Unga’s culture code – FIRST.
  6. Participate in organizing site events and initiatives as guided.
  7. Enhance employee safety through trainings
  8. Ensure adherence and compliance to safety requirements

Leadership & Accountability 

  1. Improve on process accountability through F2F discussions
  2. Coaching and mentoring employees
  3. Ensure effective communication
  4. Ensure Process ownership
  5. Conflict resolution. Ensure issues brought forward are resolved and escalated on time

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Electrical Engineering or its equivalent  
  2. Diploma / Advanced Certificate in Milling Technology
  3. Minimum three years of experience in the milling industry
  4. Computer proficiency in MS. Office                                                 
  5. Possess good communication skills.
  6. Supervisory skills

  3. Excellent presentation skills
